We are gathered here today to celebrate the joining in holy hockeymony of Truro 2s and OPM 1s. Despite an unexpected chill to the morning, all OPM participants were ready to fulfil their hockeymonial duties at the appointed time. Friends came from far and wide to shiver, play ( Anneliese Noakes ) and witness this happy occasion ( Beth Humphries Luci Barber Tommo George Bilcliffe Dave and Denise Skeels ... not forgetting flower girl, little Liv).
The ceremony started promptly despite 2 of Truro’s bridal party being fashionably late. Jordan Round and Andy officiated with aplomb, and no objections were raised. It began, and continued as a somewhat one-sided affair - half-time saw the OPM bridegrooms 5-0 up, despite some windmill arms/sticks ( Pippa Jephcott tut tut) which infected several others in the party, the cheeky ball playing hard to get.
An early speech at half time, with drinks and nibbles, from Kirstin Clarkers roused the spirits and improved performance and accuracy in the second half. A confetti flurry of short corners gave opportunities to throw a few shapes in the D, and poor Loz was scuppered only by the presence of Dad Dave and his curse. The defence did us proud, despite not taking many turns on the dance floor, we are the only team in the league still retaining a clean (bed)sheet. Raise a glass to “the defence!” Penny Rolls Maddy Hazel Marie Russell Kirstin
Some great passages of team play provided the guests with some light entertainment and as the proceedings drew to a close, Genevieve McBride finally sealed the deal, slipping one past the keeper as the vicars pronounced us victor and wife (sounds better than loser). You may now kiss the 12-0! Huzzah!
Everyone retreated to the OPM suite, where a much needed wedding breakfast of bacon sarnies and chips was provided by the effervescent master of ceremonies, Ash. Loz cut the cake, and as slices and sweet favours were distributed, the wedding party raised a toast to Player, Pippa Jephcott for a double hatrick, who had the dual (dubious) honour of taking Ditzy home for some prima noce action for her swing and miss antics #windmill Gen narrowly missed player for the second week running, and Leigh also got votes for an outstanding performance in defence and attack, topped off with an incredible deflection goal.
Last minute invitee Emily Boucher borrowed an outfit, stepped in and played a great game to take part in her first OPM nuptials, but was narrowly denied getting her name in the register. Witnesses signing the goal register as follows: Anneleise x2, Claire Seymour, Kirstin, Leigh-Anne Hooper, Pippa x6 and Gen.
The OPM party now have a plethora of random injuries, sore feet, fun memories and mental snapshots to take away, but remember - a wedding is just a day, marriage (team) is for life. (Katie Warren says there’s no escape/divorces!)
Today’s match report is in honour of one of our own, Charlie Smith now Mrs Sargent. We miss you. Happy Wedding Day ? ❣ ? ?
