We really need to get the appropriate level of umpires so that we can be assigned umpires next season. If we don't then we will not get umpires allocated.

6th February 2009 - Plymouth Marjon E excluded from SW District 1
Email from the area league secretary:

At a meeting of the League committee held Wednesday 5th February, following a recommendation by the Rules Sub Committee, it was decided to exclude Plymouth Marjons E from the West of England & South Wales Hockey League. As a result all previous results and the remaining fixtures involving this team shall be removed from the League competition.

The committee would like to point out that whilst Plymouth Marjons E have been excluded from the League structure, they do still effectively have a ready made fixture list for the rest of the season and there is no reason why all remaining games can’t be played as ‘friendlies’.

The league table will be amended to exclude any results against Plymouth Marjon E.

10th June 2008 - Level 1 Umpiring Course
As we spoke about at the AGM, there is an urgent need for more umpires at the club. We are already being punished financially next season for not having enough umpires per team, and this cost ultimately has to get passed on to the players, so please help your club.
There will be a Level 1 Umpire Course in Exeter on Friday, 27 June 2008, this being the theory, with the exam being taken on Thursday, 3 July 2008. Venue and cost will be notified once confirmed.

4th February 2008 - Level One Umpiring Course
A level 1 umpire course is being organised in Plymouth in February (18th, 25th and 26th, 6pm to 9:30pm) at Marjons.
OPM HC needs more umpires. The Devon Umpires Association is working towards having two qualified umpires per league side, with the prospect of umpires not being appointed to matches for clubs that do not fulfil the minimum criteria of umpires.
The course will be paid for by the club, so please think hard about whether you would like to help serve your club a little more and help out occassionally with umpiring, instead of leaving it to those kind team-mates of yours that already have qualified.
Let Rob or myself know if you are interested. I have applications forms at the ready.

this flyer.

15th May 2006 - Immediate rule change
The following rule has been implemented into all hockey matches with immediate effect:

Players must not hit the ball hard on the forehand with the edge of the stick.

The forehand is defined as playing a ball which is to the right of the player in a forwards direction. This does not prohibit use of the edge of the stick on the forehand in a controlled action in a tackle, when raising the ball in a controlled way over an opponent's stick or over a goalkeeper who is lying on the ground or when using a long pushing motion along the ground.

Of course this is an extremely subjective ruling, umpires are left to interpret the definition of hitting the ball "hard".

23rd February 2003 - Letter from the club president

This letter was very kindly given to Rob Logan by John Stevens, President of the main OPM Club, to read out to the 1st XI squad. Thank you to the main club from all the players for their support.

Dear Rob,
Thank you for the telephone message on my answer machine and the splendid news. Please convey my congratulations and also those of the O.P.M. Club to the whole squad when you see them next.
It is good to see O.P.M. Hockey going from strength to strength and long may it continue. The players of an older generation would have applauded the way you have played this season both in the quality of the hockey and the high standard of behaviour.
I hope you will all thoroughly enjoy the rest of the season and prepare yourselves well for the season ahead.
Well done Rob Logan, Jason Sweby and all of you.
Best wishes,
John Stevens (President).
